Sections

The third article of the SMB by-law considers the formation of Sections within the Society.

Those regular members that share common interests in their research areas can gather together to form a Section within the Mexican Society of Biochemistry (Sociedad Mexicana de Bioquímica). A minimum of fifteen regular members must submit a written petition to the current SMB president, the executive committee will decide on the pertinence of this application.

Each SMB Section will organize their meetings biennially, in those years when the National SMB Meeting does not take place. The Section meeting schedules will be updated to include newly Sections or remove those that no longer exist. A Section will be officially dissolved when it fails to organize two consecutive meetings.

The current Sections are:

  • Bioenergetics and Biomembranes
  • Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
  • Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Viruses
  • Molecular and Cellular Biology of Fungi
  • Physical Chemistry, Structure, and Protein Design
  • Signal Transduction
  • Oxygen Reactive Species in Biology and Medicine
  • Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Bacteria
  • Neurobiology
