About the Event
Pathophysiology of Senescence, from Development to Aging
Cellular senescence sits at the crossroads of development, tissue repair, and aging — a program that can protect us and, when dysregulated, drive disease. IberoICSA’s inaugural in-person symposium brings together the scientists shaping this field to explore senescence across the full arc of life, from its physiological roles in embryogenesis to its contribution to aging and age-related pathology.
This is a landmark moment for our community: the first in-person meeting of the International Cell Senescence Association’s Ibero-American Chapter. It’s a rare opportunity to connect face-to-face with colleagues from across Latin America, Spain, and Portugal, spark new collaborations, and strengthen a regional network at the forefront of senescence research.
We’ll gather in the heart of Mexico City, at the Palacio de la Escuela de Medicina — a striking 18th-century Baroque landmark in the Historic Center — surrounded by the city’s world-class museums, architecture, and street food scene. Join us for a symposium where rigorous science meets the energy and warmth of Mexican culture.

This satellite course offers a comprehensive introduction to the cellular, molecular, and pathophysiological foundations of cellular senescence and aging. Throughout the course, we will review the main mechanisms associated with cellular senescence, beginning with physiological functioning and then moving on to the changes that occur during aging.
